MAHA Organization of the Year Award

In October 2017, the PAIR Project was named the Organization of the Year by the Massachusetts Association of Hispanic Attorneys. At its awards reception, MAHA recognized PAIR for its exemplary achievements, dedication, commitment and advocacy in promoting human justice on behalf of the Commonwealth’s asylum seekers and detained immigrants.

PAIR Selected as TPC Grantee 

On June 1, The Philanthropy Connection announced its ten 2017-2018 grantees, including PAIR, who was selected for its determination to protect immigrant rights and expanded community outreach services.

PAIR recognized as a Pro Bono Champion

On May 18, AILA NE presented PAIR with the 2017 AILA NE Pro Bono Champions Award in recognition of its post-election work and commitment to pro bono efforts.

PAIR Launches "Know Your Rights" Initiative

PAIR has launched its community outreach “Know Your Rights” (“KYR”) initiative in response to the increased need for immigration legal services after the November 2016 presidential election. These efforts are undertaken in partnership with the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and local non-profits. The goal of the KYR project is to provide current and accurate information to immigrant communities, to inform individuals of their constitutional and immigration rights, and to provide legal service referrals. The kick-off "KYR" presentation will be hosted by Marla Felcher, of the Philanthropy Connection on Dec. 5.

PAIR Executive Director Anita P. Sharma was appointed as 2016-17 Steering Committee Member of the Boston Bar Association’s Delivery of Legal Services Committee.

PAIR Awarded by the Brandeis University 

In April 2016, PAIR was honored with the Mass Justice Fund award from the Sillerman Center for the Advancement of Philanthropy, Brandeis University, for its high-quality pro bono programs and representation of immigration detainees.

PAIR Recognized by Consul General of El Salvador

PAIR was recognized for its support of the Salvadoran immigrant community, in January 2016, at Boston’s City Hall, hosted by the Consul General of El Salvador.

PAIR organizes "Know Your Rights" Day  

On April 7, The Boston Globe covered "Know Your Rights" Day at Boston International Newcomers Academy (BINcA), where the PAIR staff and pro bono attorneys met with 500 high school students to discuss recent changes in immigration policy and basic constitutional and immigration rights.

In February 2017, PAIR is awarded emergency funding by the Lenny Zakim Fund for its rapid response to the presidential executive orders.

In collaboration with OpenBoston, AILA and IRAP, PAIR has been coordinating volunteer attorneys at Logan Airport to observe CBP’s compliance with the nationwide injunction of the January 27, 2017 executive order that imposed a travel ban on visitors from certain countries.

PAIR's Executive Director Anita Sharma honored at Top Women of Law Event

Anita P. Sharma, PAIR’s Executive Director, was selected by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly as an honoree of its Top Women of Law annual awards event, to be held on October 27, 2016 at the Marriot Copley Place Hotel in Boston, MA.  In October, Anita, along with 49 other Top Women honorees, will be recognized for their outstanding accomplishments in the legal community. Each year Lawyers Weekly honors women attorneys who have made tremendous professional strides and demonstrated great accomplishments in the legal field, which includes: pro bono, social justice, advocacy and business. 

PAIR Volunteer Hannah Bornstein & Troy Lieberman featured in Beyond the Billable

In October 2016, Nixon Peabody’s Hannah Bornstein & Troy Lieberman were featured in the Boston Bar Association‘s Beyond the Billable for their pro bono work with PAIR and efforts on behalf of PAIR clients.  We are privileged to work with such wonderful volunteer attorneys.

PAIR Awarded '100K for 100' Grant

On June 9, 2016, PAIR was honored as a recipient of the Cummings Foundation “100K for 100” grant to support it’s Access to Justice Program to increase community intake. PAIR is one of 100 local nonprofits to receive grants of $100,000 (divided over 3 years). PAIR was chosen from a total of 479 applicants, during a competitive review process. PAIR's Executive Director Anita P. Sharma was appointed as 2016-17 Co-Chair of the Asylum Liaison Committee of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) New England Chapter.

PAIR Awarded Funding by City of Boston

In March 2016, PAIR was awarded a grant by the City of Boston, Mayor’s Office of New Bostonian for their DACA/DAPA Outreach Initiative (through the Emma Lazarus Local Challenge), which will provide community outreach and education on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA).
